Repurposing industrial buildings creates unique opportunities and challenges. The spaces offered by this warehouse buildings have high ceilings and a robust character of cast iron columns and wood floors, the challenge was to create simple insertions of the correct scale to create the amenities demanded of modern residential space.

Permission was won for a new storey, and a modern addition using a language of simple planes and pragmatic construction creates a space with a wall of glass facing the panorama of the city.

The shared spaces providing the vertical circulation to all units occupies the blind space at the rear of the building. The robust yet elegant stair rises in a top lit space with a dramatic reflective light installation animating the bottom of this dramatic five storey lightwell.
